Special activities and programs

Low stimulus and heavy work sensory spaces

Kalinda School's sensory spaces are designed to calm or stimulate students. Everyone is different, so a space can either reduce sensory overload or stimulate the senses. Heavy work is any type of activity that pushes or pulls against the body. These activities can help students feel centered. Heavy work engages a sense called proprioception, or body awareness. This can help more children and students, not just those with specific sensory needs.

Clontarf

Clontarf helps young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men to attend school, finish Year 12 and enter employment. Using supportive relationships, a welcoming environment and a diverse range of activities, the young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men develop improved self-esteem and confidence which assists them to participate in education, employment and society in a positive way. Kalinda School Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students join with Murrumbidge Regional High School each week for Clontarf.

Computer technology

Computer technology is an important area of the curriculum and an extensive range of hardware and software enables access to curriculum for all students.  All classrooms feature Interactive Whiteboards (IWB) and include extensive use of iPads to support student communication. Switch devices allow students to actively respond to and demonstrate choice.

Excursions

Excursion programs involving day and overnight trips provide students with a wide range of learning experiences outside the school environment and offer enrichment to the school curriculum. Students are provided with many opportunities to develop knowledge, independence and social skills in different environments.
